The pronghorn is the fastest animal in the Western Hemisphere. It can run at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour and it can run long distances at speeds of 30-40 miles per hour. It can make bounds of up to 20 feet when it is running. When the pronghorn runs, its mouth is open so it can breath in extra oxygen. Speed is important because the pronghorn lives in open areas, and there is no place to hide from a predator! It has to be able to run away! The pronghorn is active in the night and in the day.
BBO uses many different techniques hunting “Speed Goats”. The private ranches that BBO leases consists of thousands of acres in the plains and mountainous country in Southern CO.
All of the guides will hunt accordingly to a hunters capability. Antelope can be hunted with guns or bows. Filmed hunts are also available.

(2016)Rifle Hunting Antelope: October 1-7
Hunting antelope in Archery or Rifle season hunters can expect to have the option of spotting and stalking or sitting over watering holes. The best part about hunting antelope is you can hunt them from daylight to dark and not worry about not being able to find them during the famous 10-2 hours of lunch/nap time for most hunts. BBO has become fond of being aggressive in the mornings starting off with spotting and stalking. Spot and stalk hunting consists of a lot of glassing with optics and when we spot the caliber of buck we are after we will either try decoying the buck into range or use the terrain to our advantage to close the distance enough to get a shot. If we come up unsuccessful around 10am we recommend sitting over water. It is best to be out in the field and put in the hours needed to have a successful hunt. Hunting watering holes consists of sitting in a blind and waiting for the right buck to get thirsty. We pack lunches and plenty of water to stay comfortable throughout the hunt. The guide may or may not according to what is going on during the hunt will get out and glass more country to see if any shooter bucks are in the area looking to come into get a drink. If no shooter bucks are in the area we will get in the trucks or atvs and go to other antelope country to try and get a good spot and stalk hunt in before the end of shooting hours.
All of us at BBO would love the opportunity to guide on a hunt of a lifetime for the tasty and speedy Pronghorn Antelope.
