Black Bears in Southern CO are plentiful and healthy. Depending on the rainfall and amount of crops throughout the spring and summer, it can make fall bear hunting an experience one will never forget. There are several methods to hunting Black Bear. BBO prefers to glass from a far and spot and stalk or predator call them into range for a kill shot.
Black Bear season is concurrent with the Elk and Mule Deer seasons. BBO advises hunters that are specifically wanting to harvest a Black Bear to hunt during the September 2nd through the 30th. Hunters that have been drawn or bought an over the counter license for Rifle Elk or Deer during the 4 rifle seasons that Colorado provides have the ability to purchase a Black Bear license that is concurrent with the Elk or Deer license already in possession.
